Abstract


The second coming of Jesus Christ reveals, with His glory, all the mysteries that were present during His first coming when He became flesh (man), as well as to judge the living and the dead. This study aims to examine the meaning of the second coming of the Lord Jesus according to 2 Peter 3:1-17. This research uses a qualitative method with a textual criticism approach to explore the interpretation of the biblical text. The first step is to conduct a contextual analysis of the book of 2 Peter, understanding the background of its writing and the situation faced by the church at that time. Then, textual analysis is conducted by examining the structure of the language and word choices in 2 Peter 3:1-17 to uncover the theological message. The study results indicate that 2 Peter 3:1-17 emphasizes the importance of the church's readiness for the second coming of Christ, urging patience, hope, and holy living as a response to God's promises. This text also contains a warning against neglecting the promise of His coming and a call to remain faithful and live in repentance. This study is expected to provide a deeper understanding of Christian eschatology and its relevance to the lives of Christians today.
